Steps to Going Abroad for Gordon College Students

Step 1: Review approved programs and meet with advisor
Review approved programs for your major. Then determine how study abroad fits into your four-year plan and which course requirements you might need to fulfill while abroad by meeting with your advisor.

Step 2: Select a Program
Confirm that you meet the program requirements.

Step 3: Submit a Seat Application
Complete the application online on Horizons. Once you apply, wait to hear from the GEO on approval and program costs (you will hear back a few weeks after the application due date).

Please note: You may not apply directly to a program until you have been approved by the GEO to study abroad.

Deadlines

SEAT APPLICATIONS
Seat applications for all fall and spring semester programs must be submitted online by March 1.

*Visiting students applying for the fall Orvieto or Balkans program must submit online applications by March 15.
**Students applying for the spring Orvieto or Balkans program must submit online applications by September 30 (or October 15th for visiting students).

Qualifications & Preparing to travel

To be eligible to study abroad you must:

  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75
  • Have Sophomore standing or above
  • Possess a strong commitment to academics and Christianity

Preparation
After you have been accepted, we will help you prepare for your study abroad experience. Through preparatory dialogue and ongoing reflection, we will help you make the most out of your experience. All students studying abroad will be required to participate in a day-long pre-departure and post-return course.

Financial Aid
Student Financial Services will reassess each applicant's institutional aid package for their off-campus semester and provide a breakdown of costs after approval from the GEO.  Factors in the aid reassessment will include financial need and program cost, as well as a cap on institutional aid provided to off-campus study.

Note: Students receive their regular financial aid award for a semester in Orvieto or the Balkans.
